Stanley Park Beaver Lake
水狸湖(Chinese)

On the first maps of the area this shallow pond was marked as the Lake.When beaver were sighted in 1911, Beaver Lake received its now familiar name. At the time, an unsuccessful attempt was made to keep beaver on the Lake but keeping them confined to this one area of the Park proved impossible. Later, trout and salmon were introduced and fishing enthusiasts built and operated a hatchery on Prospect Creek. Today, Beaver Lake acts like a magnet drawing any naturalist who walks into Stanley Park to its open shore. Who can resist the lure of a woodland pond? Thoreau had much to say about this experience.
