Downtown Eastside is also a community rich in history, architecture, and diversity. The area - bound by Burrard Inlet to the north, Clark Drive to the east, Hastings Street to the south, and Main Street to the west - is one of the oldest communities in Vancouver. It is also a community that works hard to maintain its integrity and improve its identity as a vital inner-city neighbourhood.

The Downtown Eastside (DTES) encompassed two distinct areas within its boundaries. The original civic centre, centred around Main and Hastings with City Hall, the City Market, the Carnigie Public Library and numerous theatres, while farther east it was home to much of the original industry of the new city including the Hastings Mill. Along the waterfront of Burrard Inlet was, as today, the port.

溫哥華市區東端(Downtown Eastside)雖然被描述成為加拿大的最貧困的社區，但是它也是一個富有歷史，建築 和多元文化的社區。它是在溫哥華的最老的社區之一。它包括卡內基(Carnigie)公共圖書館，以及東北邊黑斯廷斯鋸木廠所在的港口與工業區。我們將藉由許多歷史建築如電車總站、銀行、飯店、華宅、以及戲院，述說溫 哥華市百年來的都市發展，以及精彩的多元文化。

溫哥華市區東端(Downtown Eastside) 中國城商業區，有許多值的一看的歷史建築。例如緬街(Main St.)上的老式銀行，以及溫哥華舊圖書館的卡內基社區中心(Carnegie Centre)，都是極具藝術價值的古老建物。溫哥華公共圖 書館將舊歷史建築再生利用，扮演著社區再造，或更新的領航員角色。三級政府協議透過復甦溫哥華市中心東端的計劃，將該區的老舊旅館改為獨立的小型公寓單位，租給低收入，又能獨立居住的單身人士。

歐本海默(Oppenheimer)公園為每年八月初，日本人的節慶所在地。這也是溫哥華市唯一公園允許公開自由發表 政治言論，舉辦示威抗議遊行的聚會所。最近在此舉辦的終止立法貧困的示威活動，就是為了對抗剝削她們利益的經濟主義全球化，爭取在醫療、就業、住屋及教育上的基本人權。
