Maplewood Flats Wildlife Sactuary
楓木沙洲野鳥保護區 楓木沙洲(Maplewood Flats)位於伯拉德內海(Burrard Inlet)的北岸。其內擁有小溪、池塘、闊葉林、草原、鹹水溼地與內海各種不同棲息地。其北方的高地為赤楊樹與三角葉楊樹森林，則是鳴雀與林鶯小鳥的覓食區。 該地生物很多，每年冬天總吸引上百成千的水鴨與野鴨來此度冬，包括多種濱鳥(Shorebirds)、魚狗(Kingfisher)、歌雀(Sparrow)、黑鳥(Blackbird)、海番鴨(Scoter)、丑鴨(Harlequin Duck)、金眼鴨(Goldeneye)、鸕鶿(Cormorant) 、秋沙鴨(Merganser)、赤頸鴨(Wigeon)與白頭鵰(Bald Eagle)等。 每年五月份，魚鷹會歸來(Return of the Osprey)築巢產卵，為一大盛事。 集合：由一號公路過2nd Narrows在23號出口，沿北溫哥華Dollarton Hwy東行約兩公里，左邊經過一片闊葉樹林，到螃蟹店(大招牌)側面空地停車場集合。野鳥保護區入口再往前走一百公尺右側Environment Canada Laboratory門口 (注意加拿大環境部停車場假日下午四時自動關閉) 公車：212, 215, 網站 www.cmbuslink.com 建議：請穿運動鞋。攜帶望遠鏡(binocular)：目鏡 (eyepiece)7~10 倍 x 物鏡(objective)21~25較輕的望遠鏡。在London Drug可買到合理價格。 |
Maplewood Flats is located on the north shore of Burrard Inlet about 2 km east of the Second Narrows Bridge. This 96 hectare area is composed of mud flats (over 90%), and of some salt marsh. Several
disused log pilings provide perching and nesting habitat. The marine waters are frequented by harbour seals and occasionally by Steller's sea lions. During the spring and summer months visitors may find
many easily identified butterflies. Access to Maplewood Flats is through the parking area of the Pacific Environmental Science Centre on Dollarton Highway.
