Buntzen Lake Reservoir Recreation Area

Buntzen Lake Reservoir is 4.8 km long and covers an area of 182 hectares. Formerly known as Lake Beautiful, the lake is named after the first General Manager of BC Electric Co., Johannes Buntzen. In 1903 the Buntzen hydroelectric project was put in service by the Vancouver Power Company to provide the first hydroelectric power to Vancouver.

Previously, the city had to depend on a 1,500 kW steam plant for its power supply. The project involved raising the level of the dam on Coquitlam Lake and excavating a 3.6 km tunnel to carry water to Buntzen Lake. The tunnel runs under Eagle Mountain with a maximum depth of 1.2 km below the surface, and empties into the north end of Buntzen Lake.

Looping around the wooded knoll just south of the boat launch, this trail passes through a variety of forest landscapes and past attractive views of Buntzen Lake. Interpretive displays along the way explain how plants, animals and people acquire their energy.

Access :Buntzen Reservoir Recreation Area is located approximately 30 km from Vancouver in the village of Anmore. From Hwy 7A (Barnett Highway) take the Ioco exit and follow Ioco Road. Turn right onto 1st Avenue and again at Sunnyside Road. Sunnyside Road will lead you directly to the entrance gate.

公園內有無數健康步道，鼓勵遊客健身。其中一條最受歡迎的步道就是能源自然步道。走在這一條能源自然步道，我們可以來瞭解植物，動物，土壤與能量的生態關係。藉著各種不同森林生態的相互依存，來讓人們了解 ，做為一級生產者的綠色植物與消費者的動物，以及腐化再生的細菌與甲蟲之間的密切關係。為何藤楓 (Vine Maple)的樹枝會扭曲，闊葉林與針葉林分別扮演不同的角色，一棵死去的樹或斷幹到底對大自然提供些什麼功 能？什麼東西讓木頭腐敗，能量如何在森林內相互轉變？我們又如何效法自然節約能源。
