草地照顧(lawn care)
mow high (about 5 cm in height), mow often, & leave the clippings
water thoroughly, but infrequently (about an hour per week)
add compost, mulch & fertilize naturally
aerate & overseed
use a mixture of grass varieties
consider alternate forms of ground cover healthy turf will crowd out most weeds!

sweet woodruff (Galium odoratum)

家製除草劑(home-made weed killer)
boil 1 litre of water, add 2 tbsp salt, & 5 tbsp vinegar
pour directly onto weeds while still hot

grow herbs & allow them to flower e.g. coriander, dill, fennel, lavender, mint, parsley, thyme
grow plants from the composite family e.g. asters, daisies, sunflowers, zinnia plant marigolds & other chrysanthemums, garlic & chives throughout the garden to attract beneficial insects and birds!

一般花園害蟲與解決辦法(common garden pests and solutions)

蛞蝓與蝸牛(slugs & snails)
create barriers e.g. copper, crushed egg shells, wood chips
make a trap with a small plastic container
cut holes near the lip
sink it into the ground, leave holes exposed
fill with beer (or make a mix of 2tbsp baking yeast & 2/3 cup sugar in 1 litre of water)
secure lid in place
use resistant plants e.g. begonias, fuchsias, geraniums, impatients, lavender, sage, rosemary

aphids, mites, whiteflies, cutworms, leaf miners etc!
肥皂水噴灑(soapy water spray)
mix 15ml liquid dish soap & 235 ml oil
mix 5 to 10ml of the soap and oil mixture
with 1 cup water
spray as needed

蒜頭噴灑(garlic spray)
pulverize in blender a couple of whole
cayenne peppers, a large onion & a whole
bulb of garlic with a little water
cover this mash with 1 litre of water
let stand 24 hours, then strain
spray as needed

黴菌疾病(fungal disease)
mix 1 part of compost with 5 parts water
let stand 1 week, then strain
spray directly onto diseased plants
Please note: while these recipes are biodegradable, they should still be used sparingly and safely!

室內害蟲控制(indoor pest control)
install window and door screens
seal holes
keep food in tightly sealed containers
reduce clutter
trim vegetation around the building's exterior

果蠅捕捉(fruit flies trap)
In a shallow container, add vinegar to a depth of about 1 cm
Cover with plastic wrap and poke holes in it with a fork

螞蟻(ants)
Seal entry point
Wipe areas where ants occurred with soapy water

return them at an industry-funded return centre if accepted under provincial regulation
label must have a pest control product registration number & poisonous symbol (skull and cross bones)
store in a safe place until a proper disposal
system is in place

or go online at www.productcare.org
do not pour down the drain,
do not reuse the container!
